*Alert* BMG Music Scam CD

If you have received a "free" music CD from BMG Music, DO NOT PLAY IT IN YOUR COMPUTER NOR RESPOND TO THEIR CREDIT CARD PAYMENT REQUEST. The CD contains malicious software and they illegally charge your credit card.

I had received a very suspicious CD delivery from BMG Music that attempted to install a backdoor spyware/virus onto my computer. I'm pretty sure that they got my personal information from one of the offers that I signed up for with my get paid to sites. However, I did not disclose any credit card or social security information to them. To my amazement I got this little package in the mail earlier today and it looked very legitimate at first glance (this is what the box looked like after I opened it, but you get the idea).

Inside this package there is a music CD entitle, "Totally Country Vol. 5"And also inside this box was a little bill document stating that I had recently ordered a "free" CD from BMG Music. They said that I needed to pay $2.79 to cover the shipping charges and that I could pay with my credit card number by May 6, 2007. Fat Chance. Of course, I've never ordered anything form this company before nor have I ever visited their website.

On the back of this bill, it stated that if the original shipping package is unopened I can return it by just dropping it back in the mail. But how would I know this information, unless I open the package and read their bill document?

I had searched everywhere for a 1800 number to contact them, but they don't have one. Also they use a P.O. box mailing address with no reference to whom the payment is made out to.

I did some research about this company and it turns out that this is a real company that is partnered with Sony. It was once a reputable name, but now they have become a lowly scavenger, trying to charge customers credit card without any reason whatsoever. The CD that they shiped contained some malicious software that can render your PC vulnerable to outside attacks, so don't play it in any computer system.

Having said that, I tried to play this CD in my old CD player to see what it sounded like. Unsurprisingly, the CD was loaded with garbage. The CD played, but the sound quality was poor.

So what did I do with all this? I decided to shoot them an email, stating that their CD had crap written all over it and I demanded 10 minutes of my life back for listening to it.
