Writing with incentives
Helium is the new website that is promoting articles which can be written by anyone on about any topic of their choice. The site intends to become a collection of user submitted information which can range anywhere from, "how to cook fried rice" to the more sophisticated and sensitive topic of, "does god exist?" Because users submitted articles are what drives this community, it attempts to attract more potential authors to post on it's site by providing incentives for posting up articles on the various topics. Helium, however, does not work on the pay-per-post basis, so you will not earn a constant amount of dollars for each post and articles that you write. Instead, Helium determines you payout based on how popular your article is and how high it ranks within the corresponding category. This in essence is used in the hopes that plenty of high quality articles will be submitted to the site to help it grow and expand. So if you write a poorly written article (and lots of it), chances are that you probably won't be making any great amount of money from this site.
Helium offers this nifty little thing called, "leapfrog" and its essentially a tool that authors can use to move their articles up the rank, thus they "leapfrogging" over other articles. The downside to this is that everyone has the same potential to leapfrog over their competition and so the whole system balances out to some extent.
Some of the articles on Helium aren't actually articles, but instead they should be considered more as quotes. They are usually one or two sentences long and contains a phrase that can easily capture the attention of viewers. So far its not uncommon to see these quotes floating around in top 10 of each category.
The site is still relatively new and is attracting more and more bloggers each week. So those who naturally love to write and want to earn some pocket money should definitely check this one out.
